Sharon has bachelor’s degrees in teaching children who are hearing impaired (birth – 12) and elementary education. She taught hearing impaired children in Minot and Bismarck, ND for six years till the Kinde’s moved to the Twin Cities. Currently licensed by the Minnesota Department of Education, Sharon taught regular elementary education for more than 20 years in northeast and north Minneapolis serving with the Minneapolis Public School System. She taught first, third and fourth grades, but most of Sharon’s classroom experience has been as a first grade teacher. Seeing children learn to decode, increase in fluency and comprehension and then grasp math concepts are all aspects that make teaching early elementary so special. For her last six years in Minneapolis, Sharon focused on math, giving special attention to children who struggled with math and math concepts; it brought great joy as Sharon saw children’s eyes widen and light up with understanding as they grasped strategies for understanding and applying math.
Sharon could always answer questions about faith and her decision-making in the public school context, but coming to Northside Christian School is entirely different. She is able to weave faith in her teaching and can draw examples from Scripture and incorporate lessons from the Bible in all parts of Northside curricula. Sharon is looking forward to teaching first and second grades this coming year at Northside.
Married since 1983 to her husband, Mark, they have been blessed with three children, a son-in-law and daughter-in-law, and five grandchildren. Other than seeing people come to and grow in Christ, there is no greater joy than spending time with and caring for her grandchildren. Sharon also enjoys Bible Study, reading, gardening, bicycling and camping. She has taught Sunday School and served in the church nursery for many years.
